Kalystar

Buy and Sell Online the Smart Way

Frequently Asked Questions

Kalystar is an online classifieds platform for Zimbabwe that allows you to buy and sell a wide variety of goods and services. It’s essentially a digital marketplace where you can browse listings in categories like electronics, vehicles, property, jobs, services, and more. If you have something to sell, you can list it here, and if you’re looking to buy, you can find deals being offered by people all over the country.
Posting an ad on Kalystar is easy and does not require creating a user account at this stage. Simply click on the “Sell with Us” link on the website and fill out the short form with your name, contact information, and a description of the product or service you want to sell. Once you submit that, our team will contact you (usually via WhatsApp) to help gather any additional details like photos and pricing. After that, we’ll create the listing and publish it for you on the site. It’s a hassle-free process where we do the technical parts – you just provide the info. (Note: In the future we may introduce user accounts for added features, but currently we handle listings through our team to ensure quality.)
Kalystar is free to use. Browsing the site and responding to listings costs nothing. Posting a basic listing is also free – we do not charge any fees or commission when you sell an item through our platform. Our goal is to grow a vibrant community, so we’ve made it free to buy, sell, or advertise standard listings. In the future, we might offer optional premium features (for example, promoted ads that get extra visibility), but using the core platform will remain free. If anyone tries to charge you to use Kalystar or claims there’s a fee, please double-check with us directly, as that may be fraudulent.
You can find items or services by browsing the categories listed on the site’s menu or by using the search bar at the top of the site. For example, if you’re looking for a phone, you might browse the “Electronics & Gadgets” category, or simply type the model (like “iPhone 12”) into the search bar. The platform will show you all relevant listings. You can also filter by category or location if needed. If you don’t immediately see what you want, consider posting a request using “Request a Product/Service” – we’ll help you locate it.
Kalystar has a special feature just for this situation! If you can’t find what you need by browsing or searching, head over to the “Request a Product/Service” section. There, you can fill out a form detailing what you’re looking for. For example, maybe you need a specific textbook or a particular car part that isn’t listed yet. Submit the request and our team will circulate it within our network of sellers and service providers. We’ll get in touch with you if we locate someone who has what you need. It’s like putting out a wanted ad – very handy in a community-focused marketplace like ours.
Each listing on Kalystar will provide a way to contact the person behind it. Typically, you’ll see a phone number and/or a “Chat on WhatsApp” button on the listing page. As a buyer, you can click the WhatsApp link to send a message directly, or call the number given to speak with the seller. As a seller, be prepared to receive calls or WhatsApp messages from interested buyers once your listing is live. Communication usually happens outside the website (via phone/WhatsApp) to keep things quick and convenient. If you ever have trouble reaching a buyer or seller, you can contact the Kalystar support team for assistance, and we’ll help facilitate the connection.
Kalystar’s role is to connect buyers and sellers; we do not directly handle payments or delivery logistics. This means that once a buyer and seller connect, it’s up to them to decide on payment method and how the item will change hands. Usually, for local transactions, cash in person is common. Some users may agree to use mobile money (like EcoCash) or bank transfers, especially for deposits or non-cash preferences, but we advise doing that only when you’re confident in the other party (see our Safety Tips). For delivery, buyers and sellers should arrange a meeting or drop-off. If a buyer is in a different city, they might discuss a courier service – but again, that’s something you must arrange between yourselves. Always be cautious: do not send full payment for an item you haven’t seen, and likewise, sellers should ideally receive payment before handing over an item if delivering. Kalystar currently does not offer an in-house delivery or escrow payment service, so we encourage safe face-to-face exchanges whenever possible.
We take safety seriously and have a dedicated section of tips (see Safety Tips). In summary: always meet in public, don’t pay in advance for things you haven’t seen, use the official contact methods provided on our site, and trust your instincts if something feels suspicious. Kalystar moderates listings to weed out obvious fraud and we remove reported scammers, but it’s still important for users to be careful. If you follow the recommended precautions – like meeting during the day in a busy place and verifying items before payment – you greatly reduce the risk of scams. And remember, you can always reach out to our team if you need advice on a specific situation. We’re here to help ensure that buying and selling through Kalystar is a positive experience for everyone.
Typically, listings on Kalystar will remain active for a substantial period (for example, 30 days) to give them a good chance to be seen. We currently do periodic checks on older listings. If your item sells, please inform us so we can mark it as sold or remove it – that way you won’t keep getting inquiries. If your listing has been up for a while (several weeks) and you haven’t found a buyer, you can contact us to renew or update the post. We’ll either refresh the listing date or suggest improvements to help it sell. Over time, very old listings that go unresponsive may be archived or removed to keep the site up-to-date. But don’t worry, if that happens and you still want to sell, you can always post it again or ask us to relist it. The bottom line: your ad stays up as long as it’s active and relevant, and you’re always free to request changes.
Yes, you can! Since our team helps post the listing for you, you’ll need to reach out to us to make changes. If you realize you need to update the price, fix a typo, or add another photo, just contact the Kalystar team (via WhatsApp or email) and we will happily edit the listing for you. Similarly, if you’ve sold the item or simply want to take the ad down, let us know and we’ll remove it promptly. We strive to handle update requests quickly so that the information on the site stays accurate. In the near future, we plan to introduce a more automated way for you to manage your listings, but for now we are just a message away to assist with any edits or removals.
We want Kalystar to be a useful and safe marketplace for everyone, so there are some basic rules. You can post almost any legal product or service – common categories include those listed on our site (electronics, vehicles, jobs, services, etc.). However, we do not allow illegal items (such as illicit drugs, illegal firearms, stolen goods, etc.) or content that is offensive, fraudulent, or misleading. We also prohibit the posting of adult services or explicit content, as well as hate speech or anything that violates Zimbabwean law or our community standards. If you’re unsure about a specific item or service, feel free to ask our team before posting. We review all listings and will let you know if something isn’t permissible. Generally, if it’s a normal everyday item or service, you’re good to go. Just be honest and clear in your listing description.

Kalystar is new and built with modern features to improve on the traditional classifieds experience. Unlike some older platforms, we offer a more curated approach – our team actively assists with listings and monitors for scams. We’ve integrated convenient tools like WhatsApp for quick communication, and our interface is designed to be sleek and mobile-friendly for the younger generation of users. Our unique features (such as the request form for hard-to-find items and our personalized support) set us apart. We also pride ourselves on a blend of professional service (to appeal to businesses) and youthful energy (to appeal to everyday individuals). Ultimately, our aim is to offer the most trusted, user-centric classifieds experience in the country. We’re continuously improving and listening to user feedback, so you can expect Kalystar to keep getting better.

Your safety is our top priority. While Kalystar works hard to verify listings and foster trust, it’s important to take precautions when trading online. Here are some localized safety tips for buyers and sellers in Zimbabwe:

Always arrange to meet in a safe, public location. Good choices include shopping centers, supermarket parking lots, or other places with security and CCTV. Avoid meeting in secluded areas or inviting strangers to your home, especially if you’ll be alone. In Harare for example, popular public meet-up spots like Avondale Shopping Centre or a fuel station on a busy road can be safer options than private residences.
If possible, don’t go alone to a transaction. Take a friend or family member with you, particularly when dealing in high-value items like cars or electronics. If you must go alone, inform someone you trust about where you’re going, who you’re meeting (share contact info), and the time of the meeting. A quick call or message to a friend before and after the meet-up can add an extra layer of security.
For buyers, make sure to inspect the item carefully before handing over payment. Test electronics to see that they work, check the condition of a vehicle, or verify the quality of a service being offered. Don’t feel rushed – a legitimate seller will understand that you need to confirm the item is as described. For sellers, if you’re offering a service, be clear on the terms (down payment, deliverables, etc.) to avoid misunderstandings.
Cash on exchange is often the simplest and safest for in-person transactions. If using electronic payment (like EcoCash, bank transfer, etc.), do it on the spot once you have verified the item. Be cautious of anyone asking for money before you meet or who insists on a deposit to “hold an item.” Scammers might request an upfront EcoCash payment and then vanish. It’s usually best to pay only when you have the item in hand or to use a trusted escrow if engaging in a large remote transaction.
Stay alert for listings with prices way below market value or sob stories that urge you to act quickly. While great bargains exist, extremely low prices or pressure to send money urgently are red flags. If something feels “off” or the seller avoids meeting in person, trust your instincts. It’s better to walk away than risk being scammed.
Limit what personal info you share. You do not need to give out things like your ID number, home address (unless it’s for the transaction and you’re comfortable), or banking details to buyers or sellers. Communicate through Kalystar’s provided channels (our site chat/WhatsApp or the phone number in the listing) so there’s a record. Scammers sometimes try to move conversations to strange platforms or ask unnecessary personal questions – stay on topic and be cautious.
In Zimbabwe, it’s okay to politely verify who you’re dealing with. A quick phone call before meeting can give you a sense of the person. If you’re buying a higher value item like a car, you might ask for proof of ownership or ID when you meet. Likewise, sellers can ask to see a buyer’s ID if you’re signing any documents or just to confirm who is purchasing. Genuine traders will appreciate the honesty and caution.
Take advantage of Kalystar’s community features. Look at any reviews or ratings a seller might have. Kalystar encourages users to leave feedback after transactions. While we are a new platform, over time these reviews can help indicate who is reliable. Also, if a listing is marked as “Verified” or has an indication that Kalystar has vetted it, that can give extra peace of mind (though you should still follow all safety steps).
Remember that Kalystar is focused on Zimbabwe. Be wary of any buyer or seller claiming to be overseas or asking you to ship items abroad. Often, local scams involve someone saying they’ll send a foreign cheque or PayPal payment unexpectedly. Stick to local, in-person deals whenever possible.
If you encounter anything suspicious – a potential scam, harassment, or a listing that seems fraudulent – report it to Kalystar immediately. You can reach us via our contact channels (email or WhatsApp). We will investigate and, if necessary, remove the listing or ban the user. By reporting issues, you’re helping protect others in the community as well.

By following these safety tips, you can trade on Kalystar with greater confidence. We are continuously working to educate our users and improve platform security. Your vigilance, combined with our support, will keep Kalystar a safe marketplace for everyone.
